Darryl Wayne Shifflett was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on October 10, 1965, to Eleanor and Claude Shifflett. He grew up and lived his adult life in Oakpark, Virginia, where he married his longtime friend Melanie Gooding on August 5, 1995. On April 2, 1997, sons Leslie Christopher and Thomas Hamilton were born. On February 17, 1998, daughter Megan Leigh was born, whom he always referred to as “Daryl’s baby girl.”
Darryl loved hunting and fishing with his son and watching them play football. He spent many hours coaching baseball at Parks and Rec, High School JV, and Travel Ball. If you were looking for Darryl, he was always with his “baby girl” on the softball field, as he loved her and softball!
Darryl dedicated 33 years of his life working for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), starting in the drafting department to becoming a financial programmer, until his death on October 14, 2021, three days after his 56th birthday; Darryl lost a hard-fought battle with gallbladder cancer. Darryl will always be in the hearts of his wife and children.
